With small gardens lies great opportunity. This design was for a very small area just outside of a dining room window. Note the alignment of the birdbath and the sod. With bulbs, boxwood and roses, the design really keeps things simple and clean. In the foreground and to the right (out of sight) are Emerald Green Arborvitae to anchor down the 3 outside angles.
Water features are special. This one is a disappearing water fall that escapes just where the patio begins and is the lowest maintenance water feature you can do excluding a birdbath. Note the intricate stonework including walls, steps and patio softened by ferns, hosta, hellebore and other natives.
Although our stone work can be detailed, our plantings are often referred to as 'just right'. Yes, we can introduce as many species as a client may wish but deep inside, most of our clients are interested in plantings that add color and interest, but do not require a degree in horticulture to grow and maintain. We call these plants, those that require the least amount of attention, our blue chips and success is just around the corner.
What are our top plants? We call them our 'blue chip' plants - plants that require minimal maintenance while providing maximum impact on a yearly basis. These plants are the ones that often times are the unsung heroes of your landscape since they do their job so well, year after year. They are also the ones that blooom consistently, from year to year - no specia
Sugar Maple - Enoough cannot be said about this aristocrat. Great fall foliage, excellent shape, durable plant.
Black Gum - An old one but still at the top due to its really spectacular fall foliage and vigor.
Japanese Snowbell - A little known plant that has fragrant blooms and stays small. Great for around the patio.
Chinese Dogwood - Being immune to the issues of our native dogwood, this guy does his job, year in and year out.
Japanese Umbrella Pine - Great evergreen with wonderful whorled foliage. Plant in a location where all can see.
